Adaptec RAID 5405 is considered to be more advanced than other controllers. Instead of the usual 4 lanes in other controllers, Adaptec RAID 5405 makes use of 8 lanes. This means that it is able to provide more bandwidth for high end applications. For the first time user, Adaptec RAID 5405 comes inclusive of a 256 MB DDR2 cache memory and a fan out cable. The cable helps the user directly attach four drives. Adaptec RAID 5405 is considered to be a new generation of the Adaptec Unified Serial controllers. Unlike other controllers, Adaptec RAID 5405 consists of 4 internal ports in the Unified serial controller. The importance of these is that they allow users to connect 256 SAT and/or SAS disk drives through the SAS expanders.
